This piece was inspired by our first night out on safari at Botlierskop Game Reserve, South Africa. We experienced a lion and lioness lying in the grass. They nestled while grooming one another. Then, the Queen came toward our vehicle circling around behind us into the bushes while the King stood and roared seven times with the majestic golden light shinning down on him. Then he politely plopped down on the pathway blocking our vehicle and we relaxed and enjoyed watching the King overseeing the valley scene. It was awe inspiring.
